Professional Licensure Disclosure Statement: Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to challenge the national certifying examination for athletic trainers through the Board of Certification.

The SDSU Athletic Training program and all of its course requirements meet the national education standards mandated by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Only by going through a CAATE-accredited program can a student challenge the national certifying examination through the BOC.

Professional Licensure Disclosure Statement: Currently, there are no certification or licensure requirements for student personnel professionals. Students who successfully complete this 48-credit hour specialization will earn a Master of Science in Counseling and Human Resource Development specializing in College Counseling. Upon successful completion of the core requirements, and those of the College Counseling specialization, and, with the successful completion of the comprehensive written and oral examinations, graduates are endorsed as student affairs professionals.

Professional Licensure Disclosure Statement: The specialization in Marriage and Family Counseling is designed to meet the requirements of the South Dakota Board of Counselor Examiners. Graduates of this specialization are eligible for certification as a Marriage and Family Therapist after completion of certification requirements as outlined by the South Dakota Board of Counselor Examiners.

Professional Licensure Disclosure Statement: All Master of Science students are eligible to begin the process for the National Certified Counselor certification by taking the NCE six months before or after they graduate.

Students specializing in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling are eligible to begin the process for the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor certification by taking the CRC exam after a student has completed 75% of coursework or after graduation.

Graduation from this program does not grant immediate licensure as a counselor. Licensure differs by state and is obtainable by completing additional client contact hours after graduation. Students are responsible for researching licensure requirements for the state in which they plan to practice.

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialization is designed to meet the requirements of the South Dakota Board of Counselor Examiners. Graduates of this specialization are eligible for training supervisee status under the South Dakota Board of Examiners for Counselors. Once graduates complete an approved plan for the remainder of the supervised clinical experience, they are eligible for licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Graduation from this program does not grant immediate licensure as a counselor.

Professional Licensure Disclosure Statement: For South Dakota Licensure and 7-12 family and consumer sciences endorsem*nt a student must provide proof of content knowledge via 18 semesters hours of coursework (six semester hours in nutrition and wellness, six semester hours in consumer and resource management, three semester hours in human development and three semester hours in family studies) OR passing score on the PRAXIS FCS content exam. A 7-12 student teaching experience and passing score on the PRAXIS PLT or PPAT are also required. Additional teacher certification requirements include successful completion of the Indians of North America requirement and required Suicide Awareness training. The South Dakota State University Nutrition & Dietetics Internship is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). ACEND is the accrediting agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Graduates who successfully complete the ACEND accredited Nutrition & Dietetics Internship at SDSU are eligible to take the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) credentialing exam to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). In most states, graduates also must obtain licensure or certification to practice. For more information about state licensure requirements, visit Commission on Dietetic Registration State Licensure. South Dakota (SD) is among 46 states that have enacted legislation regulating the practice of dietetics. State licensure and state certification are separate from the registration exam by CDR.
