This clubhouse, puts a major twist on the diner classic. This is why we had no choice but to call it a diner deluxe clubhouse sandwich!

A clubhouse is traditionally comprised of two layers, separated by a piece of bread in the middle. The bottom layer is the meats and cheeses, and the top layer is almost always a classic B.L.T. (bacon, lettuce, tomato)

We stick pretty close to the traditional version, except in this version we changed the centre piece of toast into a piece of... FRENCH TOAST!

Yes, french toast! Making this the perfect sandwich for any time of the day or night. Did I mention that you can dip this sandwich in maple syrup? Yep thats right, a dippable delicious twist on the classic.

Maybe by now you are thinking we have lost our marbles, but seriously, you can thank us later!

Ok, this is where we have maybe lost it a bit... and totally optional. Instead of whisking the egg with milk for the french toast, we subbed in egg nog. I was worried it would be a tremendous fail and that we would never talk about it again, but I was SO WRONG. IT IS SO GOOD.

constructing a clubhouse

  1. Make the french toast, if this is something that interests you. If not, it's ok, we won't judge. Just use a regular piece of toast.
  2. Next, you will cook the egg for the egg layer. Cook this like an omelette, just with no fillings or a sunny side up egg works just as well. Using a flipper fold the egg in half.

If you are in the market for a good flipper, this one is our all time favourite, especially for flipping eggs! Honestly it is hard to find the right one and when you do it is worth it.

Assembley

For assembly, we keep it simple. Like the classic. As I mentioned above meats and cheeses on the bottom half, B.L.T on the top. Preferably separated by a piece of french toast.

Serve with a side of maple syrup. This is optional, but highly recommended especially if using the french toast layer!

And that is it! As a whole, it comes together in less than 30 minutes and makes the perfect sandwich for breakfast, lunch, or dinner!

Course: Lunch

Servings: 1 Sandwich

Ingredients

  • 3 pieces of bread of choice, all toasted, or 2 pieces toasted and one piece french toast. See below.
  • 2 eggs separated
  • 1 Tablespoon Milk
  • 2 slices of Cheddar Cheese
  • 4 pieces Shaved Turkey or Chicken Meat
  • Sliced Tomato
  • Iceberg Lettuce
  • 2-3 pieces of Bacon or turkey bacon, cooked
  • Mayonnaise
  • Maple Syrup optional

Instructions

  • This is an optional step, but highly recommended! In this step, you will make one of the pieces of bread into french toast!! To do this, whisk one of the eggs with the milk and dip the bread into the egg mixture. Once bread has soaked transfer the piece of bread into a lightly oiled fry pan. Over medium low heat fry the french toast for 3-4 minutes per side. Once fried, set aside.

  • * If you want to take this french toast one step further, substitute milk for Egg Nog!

  • In a small bowl whisk one egg, and in a lightly oiled small fry pan cook the egg like an omelette, over medium low heat. Let the egg cook on one side for 3-4 minutes until it is almost cooked through. Using a flipper, flip the egg over and cook for one more minute. Fold egg in half and set aside.

  • To assemble the sandwich start with one of the toasted pieces of bread. Spread mayo on one side, layer on the shaved turkey or chicken meat, then the cheese, then the egg. Now you will top this with either the french toast piece, or another piece of toasted bread. On the upper half place the bacon, lettuce and tomato. Top the final piece of toasted bread with some more mayonnaise spread on one side.

  • Serve with a side of maple syrup (optional, but highly recommended especially if using the french toast!)
