Love pretzel bites? These easy snacks are always a hit and the best part is that you can easily whip up a batch in your own kitchen. Serve with mustard or your favorite cheese dip and you’ve got the perfect appetizer for your next party!
Ever since I had my first mall pretzel I’ve wondered how to make those buttery soft pretzel bites at home. I mean, they’re SO good…why should we have to wait until we need new jeans to get them!
I made these Soft Pretzels and as it turns out, it’s so much easier than I expected! If I would’ve known that I would’ve start making these years ago!
Now that I’ve got the recipe, I’ve been using it for all kinds of variations, from regular pretzels to homemade pretzel dogs. Boy, were THOSE a hit! I served them when my friends came over last Friday and they were gone in a heartbeat! This week I’m switching it up and surprising them with a big batch of hot pretzel bites.

Ingredients
One of the things I love about this recipe is that the ingredients are all ones that I usually have anyway, which always makes things easy. Nobody likes to make last minute grocery store runs just to pick up one random ingredient.
Now that you’ve got everything you need, let’s do this!
How To Make Soft Pretzel Bites
Step 1: Add warm water and sugar to the bowl of a stand mixer (a regular mixing bowl works fine too). Stir until the sugar dissolves, then sprinkle yeast across the top of the water. Let sit for about 5 minutes (yeast will begin to foam).
Step 2: Add melted butter, salt and half the flour.
Step 3: Use the dough hook attachment to mix on low speed. Keep going until the flour is completely incorporated (about 2-3 minutes)
Step 4: Slowly add more flour until the dough isn’t as sticky and begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl.
Step 5: Increase the speed to medium and knead dough for about 5 minutes. You can also place the dough on a lightly floured surface and knead by hand until smooth.
Step 6: Place dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover loosely and let the dough rise for 30 minutes.
Step 7: Preheat oven to 425. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spray lightly with non-stick cooking spray.
Step 8: Separate the dough into eight equal pieces. Take the first piece and roll it into a long rope-like shape (about 15-20 inches long). Use a sharp knife to cut it into one inch pieces of dough, then repeat with the remaining dough.
Step 9: Fill a large pot with 10 cups of water and 1/2 cup baking soda. Bring to a boil.
Step 10: Working in batches, place pretzel pieces in the baking soda bath and cook for 30 seconds. You can do about 10-15 at a time, then use a slotted spoon to remove them from the water. Place about one inch apart on the sheet pan and repeat with the remaining pretzel bites.
Step 11: Whisk the egg and 1 tsp water together in a small bowl. Brush the pretzels with the egg wash, then sprinkle pretzel salt over the top.
Step 12: Bake for about 15 minutes, or until pretzel bites turn golden brown. Serve fresh from the oven!
Everyone will go totally crazy for these homemade soft pretzel bites! Just be ready…they’re pretty much the perfect party food and your friends will want you to make them for every get-together from here on out!
How to store
So far we’ve never had any leftovers! However, if you do want to save some for later, just store them at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.
Can you freeze pretzel bites
Though these taste best when you serve them fresh, you can freeze them for later if you like. Make the pretzel bites but don’t add the salt. Once they finish baking, let cool, then place the tray in the freezer. After about an hour, remove the tray and transfer the bites to a plastic freezer bag, squeezing out the air. Wrap the bag in a layer of aluminum foil for extra protection against freezer burn.
How to reheat
To reheat frozen pretzel bites, place the bites on a microwave safe plate, sprinkle lightly with water, then add salt. Dampen a paper towel slightly and cover the plate, then microwave for about 30-45 seconds.
